Grubgang on tour.......special occassion food

Dean and Clair review a pub in Aymestrey, Herefordshire for their Anniversary

Whilst on the first week of their holiday, Dean and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary and wanted something special to mark this occasion by the way of a meal. Upon reading reviews of restaurants in the area, The Riverside Inn in Aymestrey was in the top 4 in the area. We drove out to find it and found a beautiful pub in lovely countryside, boasting a river trailing through its garden area. Beautiful on the outside and hopeful inside too!

We drove out early that afternoon to book a table. We were lucky as the restaurant was busy (promising as it was a Tuesday) and the landlord found is a table for 8pm. He was a very nice man, chatting away to us about our anniversary and our daughter, who was with us for the research trip! So, that evening, we arrived a little earlier than our table was booked for, and yet were able to sit at our table as soon as we arrived. The restaurant is run so that tables are put aside for you, but you cannot order until your table booking time, so to allow the chef to not be rushed in the kitchen. This works really well, as you know that the chef takes his time on your meals to make it perfect.

Well, what can i say? It was fantastic!! I must admit, I was unashamedly making orgasmic noises over my starter.....goats cheese and cauliflower souffle. It was amazing!! I could have eaten it for every course! The menu is smaller than most pubs, but the prices also reflect the quality you get (this is definitely not a usual Grubgang ruled venue.......it is for special occasions!) Dean chose the Venison for his main, Clair the Guinea Fowl, both again amazing and served after around 15 mins wait, which was fantastic. We were so full after our meal, we decided to try the cheese board, sharing the final dish. The cheeses, as with the other ingredients, were all locally sourced and were very tasty.

So, we were ready to leave. We went to pay our bill at the bar and were told we couldn't leave!!! We were not sure what was going on!! Then, a surprise came for us...........a brownie and cream cake tower with a candle and a figurine of a bride and groom. All for our anniversary!! What a lovely, thoughtful touch from the team who were so kind to us and made us feel at home.
We definitely recommend visiting this lovely pub and restaurant, even if you go for lunch to sample their food! Well done Riverside Inn, if we are in the area again we will definitely go back!!

Marks out of 10....................................... 9 (Riverside heaven!!!!)
