Le Restaurant etait fantastique!
After a pretty much last minute decision, the Grubgang wandered up Farehams High street for the second time, heading for the quaint French Restaurant, Truffles. On looking at the menu, many would wonder as to how this setting fits in with Grubgang rules with regards to cost. Well, being the Internet surfer that he is, Dean discovered on the Truffles website vouchers for 50% off your second meal when you order a meal at the usual price. Bargain! So, armed with two vouchers, the gang divulged in the 3 course set menu option (usually £26.95 each)
For a set menu, there were ample choices in each course to choose from with starters as simple as soup to the extravagant homeless snails (although the gang passed on these this time!) to main courses including succulent steak and chicken which melts in the mouth. Gemma and Dean had the steak which they said was tender and juicy served with rosti potatoes, which again had the mouth watering. Clair's chicken was the best she had ever tasted, not at all dry but succulent and served with a fantastic sauce! Mike chose pork, which he said was lovely but he found the crackling salty and not quite crispy enough.
As for the desserts......well, the ladies had never tasted such delicious strawberry cheesecake creamy and light and the men enjoyed a chocolate chip and blueberry claufoutis, which they described as being halfway between a sweet Yorkshire pudding and a crepe! The food was so tasty in fact, that Gemma promptly proposed to the chef via the very helpful and friendly waiter how tended to us in a friendly but not too "in your face" manner.
The decor in the restaurant is lovely, airy and modern with beautiful artwork on the walls which are also for sale and added a lovely touch. The facilities were clean and of a high standard. We can imagine the restaurant may feel a little cramped on busier evenings, so definitely recommend a visit during the week, especially with the varied deals they offer, such as a ladies night (3 courses for £16.95 on a Tuesday for women AND men!!)
The gang did have to pay extra for the drinks by having the 3 courses, so a little over budget but definitely worth it! Truffles is a lovely place to go for a pleasant French menu and wonderful atmosphere. Well done truffles and thanks Dean for a great choice!!
