Brasserie Blanc Gunwharf

Who says posh nosh costs too much?
Mike informed the group we were to visit Brasserie Blanc in Gunwharf, one of Raymond Blancs exclusive restaurants. To be honest, it was a little daunting...surely the rules of Grubgangs £20 limit would be broken? Not so!! The restaurant has a special daily wine and dine menu, allowing diners to have a glass of wine and two courses for £16.95 or three courses for £18.95!! We opted for the three courses.
As with most special deals, the menu is limited to three choices for each course, but this does allow you to maybe try something new. As there were 4 of us, all of the dishes on the menu were tried and tested and the general consensus is........yum!!! The starters (a soup or 2 different types of salad) were a tasty beginning to a great meal. The pork main melted in the mouth with crunchy crackling and beautifully cooked honey glazed vegetables. Dean tried the fish which he found wonderfully cooked whilst Mike demolished his tagliatelle quicker than dean could order another wine!!
The desserts were also of a high standard. A rich chocolate mousse, a piping hot peach crumble and poached plums. The latter being worth a try just to find out what a cats tongue tastes like!! (dare you to go and try it!!)
The facilities were clean and tidy, although 2 of the toilets were broken. The decor in the restaurant was spacious and had an array of photographs of Raymond Blanc at work as well as some tasteful art. The staff were friendly and helpful, although did leave us waiting to order initially for a fair while! It was also interesting being able to sit with a view of the kitchens which also were clean and appeared to be working well.
All in all, finding deals such as this have proved to us that eating from a top chefs restaurant can be affordable and portions are not always small, leaving you empty!! We left Brasserie Blanc, wallets not too battered and pleasantly full. Well done Mike, you have chosen a great venue once more!!
