La Tasca Restaurant Review

La Tasca: All you can eat Tapas? We are there!!
After much deliberation and several changes of mind about location and dates, the birthday month Grub Gang for Dean was finally booked at La Tasca (online!!) on Monday Sept 28th!! Dean and Clair had visited the restaurant 2 weeks previously for his birthday treat, and he enjoyed it so much, he thought the Grub Gang should try it!

The main sway for this choice was in terms of value for money...."Tapas for a tenner". This deal runs on a Sunday- Tuesday basis and promises all you can eat Tapas for ten pounds! A great offer in terms of Grub Gang rules!! So, off the Gang trundled, across the Gosport Ferry and into a little bit of Spain in the (previously unvisited by the Gang) eatery lined Gunwharf Quays.

The main menu at La Tasca is predominately Tapas, with a few paellas thrown in for good measure (priced at £19,95 each - but one could easily feed 3 people!) We stuck to the All You Can Eat option, ordering everything on the menu (bar one salad!!) 12 delicious dishes were laid across our table....meatballs,salad, squid, white fish, chicken croquettes, spicy sausage, potatoes in spicy tomato sauce, aubergines in tomato and cheese, chicken and fish paella, vegetable paella...... the list was endless!! All of the dishes disappeared very quickly, and being All you can eat we had to oblige!! We ordered a further six or seven more!!

The actual restaurant is on 2 levels, decorated with the Spanish theme tastefully done. Cushions adorn the sofa seats across the sides of the restaurant with plenty of tables to fill with hungry people!! Unfortunately, although only the lower level had customers when the Grub Gang visited, service was a little slow. Understandably, there were a lot of dishes to cook for the table, but when the table was booked at 7-45 and your meal arrives at 8-35, you cant help but to wonder what took so long!! Sorry, La Tasca but one point is lost there!

OK, so in true Grub Gang ladies tradition, the facilities had to be checked out!! They were reasonably clean, but very, very warm....turn down those heaters!! Plus, there was no space between the door and the actual toilets in order for you to close the door whilst standing comfortably!! Oh well, surely the dessert menu will cheer up these ladies....??

Well, not a "wow" factor here. The choices were quite sickly with lemon cheesecake with lemon custard, donut twists with a fondue of chocolate and fruit for dipping (tasted OK...but too much chocolate is wasted!!) or simple like orange sorbet and strawberries with cream (chosen by Mike!!) So, a mediocre choice for dessert, but the Tapas could not be faulted...it was delicious!! The birthday boy had a lovely evening, as did the other 3 members, which after all is what we are aiming for!!
